The Finnish Association of Textile Artists TEXO celebrates the association’s 70th anniversary in Tampere – The theme of the anniversary exhibition is color

The TEXO’s exhibition will open in Tampere at Galleria Himmelblau in April. The anniversary exhibition was curated by MA Taina Myllyharju, Curator at the Rauma Art Museum: ”I looked for works in which color emerges as a strong element, as well as works that dare to move across the boundaries of artistic disciplines and that boldly and diversely reflect the history and present of Finnish textile art.”

The exhibition features works by 32 artists. The selected works form a distinctive and compelling whole that pays tribute to Finnish textile art. Merja Keskinen has an installation called Contrasts on display at the exhibition.

”My works are based on considerations of color theory and an examination of the factors that affect the perception of colors. I explore changes in hue, darkness, and purity. I study color juxtapositions and the associations that colors evoke. The colors of the artworks emerge when I combine different shades of threads that blend together optically creating surprising and beautiful results. In transparent, mesh-like works, the colors materialize spatially: the space influences the artwork, and the artwork influences the space. Also light and its direction affect the perception and intensity of colors.”
