Merja Keskinen’s exhibition OCTOBER COLORS at the Täky Gallery in Lappeenranta in October 2024

The starting point for the works in the exhibition has been the autumn colors of October and its various shades of brown. The exhibited artworks aim to explore and find shades of brown by combining blue, red, and yellow threads. In addition to shades of brown, combinations of the same threads also produce variations of orange, purple, and green colors.

The changes in color are based on a system, and the hues of the works have been created according to a predetermined method. The blending of colors in the works happens optically. The abstract expression of the works highlights the subtle shifts and delicate changes in color.

The exhibition features a series of six art works. The texture and structure of the surface, resembling woven fabric assembled from parts, have been created without a loom, using braiding and sewing. The colors in the works on display have been achieved by combining three different shades of blue, three shades of red, and three shades of yellow using thin linen threads. In the Fragile Line piece, which is placed in the center of the exhibition space, thin copper wire has been used in addition to linen.

OCTOBER COLORS exhibition is part of Täky gallery’s series of four exhibitions for Design for Autumn 2024
