“I work to see”
The joy of making and discovering and the joy of experiencing colors are important in Merja Keskinen´s work. Unpredictability and always surprising color shades fascinate the author.
Keskinen´s work is based on systematics. The artworks are built piece by piece. The color Shades of the parts differ from each other with small changes. In thread combinations, the colors change a few threads at a time according to the selected system. The resulting colors are optically mixed, the colors are different when viewed up close than when viewed from a distance. The combinations of colors is surprising.
The color tones that are the starting points of the artworks are selected as a result of careful consideration. The artist´s aspiration is often to present some color theory dilemma or to create a certain atmosphere. The reduced design language leaves room for the viewer´s own imagination and interpretations of colors.
In the exhibition, the strong vaults of the crypt are accompanied by spatial works of delicate transparent color weaves and artworks depicting color changes.
